Questions about TMT steel bars
What does TMT mean and why does it matter?
Thermo mechanically treated. The bar is quenched and self tempered during manufacture, which gives you a hard outer surface with a softer, more ductile core. In practice that means high strength that still bends cleanly on site.
How is it different from ordinary high yield rebar?
Both reach 500 N per square millimetre. TMT gives you better ductility, better bendability and better performance under sudden load, which is why it is specified for high rise, bridges and heavy structural work.
What grade and sizes do you carry?
Fe 500D at 500 N per square millimetre, in 12, 16, 20, 25 and 32 millimetre. Every batch is tested for yield, tensile and elongation.
Does it cost more, and is it worth it?
It carries a premium over ordinary high yield. On heavy structural work, high rise foundations and anything where ductility matters, engineers specify it for good reason. On a straightforward residential slab, Grade 500 high yield is usually enough. Ask us and we will tell you which one your job actually needs.
