Which shape suits which job?

How strong is 35 N/mm²?
It is the compressive strength our paving stones are rated at, and the figure to compare when you are pricing pavers. It tells you how the stone behaves under the weight of a parked car or a delivery lorry. Our paving stones are made for driveways, parking areas and estate roads, not just footpaths. How a paved area performs also depends on the ground beneath it, so the base matters as much as the stone.
Preparing the ground
A paving block is only as good as the base under it. The exact build-up depends on the soil and the loads, and your engineer or contractor should set it, but the usual sequence is:
- Excavate to the required depth and compact the soil underneath.
- Lay and compact a sub-base of suitable stone or laterite, thick enough for the traffic it will carry.
- Spread a thin, level bedding layer of sharp sand.
- Lay the stones in your chosen pattern, tight against a fixed edge.
- Brush fine sand into the joints and compact the surface so the stones lock together.
We manufacture and deliver paving stones. We do not lay them, so ask your contractor to confirm the build-up before delivery is scheduled.
Edging, kerbs and drainage
Paving spreads at the edges unless something holds it. Precast concrete kerbs, rated at 30 N/mm² and made in straight and radius units, hold the line of a driveway or estate road and let you turn a corner properly. Water also needs somewhere to go: our reinforced concrete pipes, from 300mm to 1200mm in diameter, serve stormwater drainage and culverts. Order them with the pavers and the whole external works package comes from one yard.
Working out how many you need
Measure the area to be paved in square metres and note the shape and pattern you want. The pattern changes how many stones you need and how much is cut away at the edges, so we work out the count and the wastage allowance and put them on your quotation. Tell us about anything unusual on site, such as steep falls, soft ground or heavy vehicles.
Ordering and delivery
Delivery is free within our Lagos service area, which covers Satellite Town, Ikorodu, Lekki, Ikeja, Victoria Island, Ajah, Epe and Yaba, and is quoted per project beyond it. Tell us when your paving crew will be on site and we will plan the delivery to land then, and tell us about site access so the right vehicle comes.

Common questions
Are paving blocks, pavers and interlocking stones the same thing?
Broadly, yes. They are different names for concrete paving units that lock together once laid. Note that our interlocking bricks are a different product: they are walling units, not paving. You will find them on the bricks page.
Can paving blocks take heavy vehicles?
Our paving stones are made for driveways, parking areas and estate roads. Share the vehicles and traffic your site expects, and the layout, and we will tell you which shape we recommend. The sub-base and edging design should come from your engineer.
Do you supply paving for estates and government projects?
Yes. We supply estate developers, contractors and government projects. Send the drawings and the programme and we will schedule supply against it.
